Simon Says Stamp - Splendor Release Blog Hop, Day 2

Updated: Feb 19

Hi Lovelies!

Welcome to Day 2 of Simon Says Stamp's Splendor Release Blog Hop! I haven't made many cards with a St. Patrick's Day theme, so I am turning over a new page this year with the help of some lucky crafty items in this release!

Though today's card can be for St. Patrick's Day, it is versatile to be given at any time of the year! We will do a some stenciling including the new Butter Pawsitively Saturated Ink and a little coloring on our dainty flowers for a soft pastel card.

Did you notice that I snuck in a snippet of a rainbow? I think rainbows and a "Lucky" them work well together though, so you can forgive me for this one.

Let's get started by reviewing the key supplies for today's cards:

Supplies are linked in the Supplies Section at the end of this post. Check out the entire Splendor release by clicking the image below:

Today's GIF!

This is just an excuse for me to share my love of cats with you. :-)

LUCKY CARD

Card Base: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"

Stenciled Layer: 4" x 5 1/2"

COLOR PALETTE

Pawsitively Saturated Ink Pads - Carnation, Peachy, Butter, Spring

COPIC Markers - RV52, RV55, Y06, Y08, Y17, YR01, YR02, YG05, YG41, C1

CARD WALKTHROUGH

STENCILING

  • Secure the Pony Love Stencil over a 4" x 5 1/2" piece of 80lb or 110lb Neenah Solar White Cardstock

  • Use a small blending brush inked to apply each of the ink colors through the stencil, blending gently in a circular motion. TIP: I tried out Simon's new Rainbow Splash Blending Brushes which come in white in Large and Small sizes and have a lower price point to their color-themed brushes and loved them! (see below)

COLORING

  • Stamp the floral horseshoe and sentiment from the Lucky Horseshoe Stamp set in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink

  • Color in the flowers and horse shoe using the Copic markers, they are so small that there is no real blending to do here, just have fun filling in the white spaces

DIE-CUTTING

  • Use the Lucky Horseshoe Dies to cut out the the horseshoe and sentiment

  • Also die-cut two lucky sentiments out of white cardstock using the top layer of the Fancy Lucky Die. Adhere the layers together with craft glue

  • Use the Spring Ink and a blending brush to blend a soft gradient of the green ink onto the Lucky Diecut

FINISHING

  • Adhere foam dots to the back of the horshoe and "lucky to have.." sentiment and adhere to the stenciled layer

  • Using craft glue, adhere the layered Fancy Lucky die-cut to the stenciled layer

  • Use craft glue again to adhere the stenciled layer to a card base to finish the card

The soft blend of colors here make me happy and if the Butter ink is not already in your cart, I think you should put this sweet color on your wishlist!

You don't have to be an amazing colorist to make this floral horseshoe cute, just a few dabs of color bring this to life!

I've seen a couple of my crafty friends do an ombre effect on a die-cut sentiment and I really liked it, so I am glad that it worked out for this card!

Happy St. Paddy's! Happy Spring! Happy Everything!!!
