Simon Says Stamp - Be Creative Release Blog Hop, Day 2

Hi Lovelies!
Welcome to Day 2 of Simon Says Stamp's Be Creative Release Blog Hop! Today I am using an OLD technique in a NEW way to create our colorful card!
The Angularium Cling Stamp is such a cool, but unassuming pattern that can be easily overlooked in it's simplicity but gives you manner possibilities in the craft room. I've adored Zig Clean Color Brush Markers for a long time but I have never used them to color a stamp due to their delicate brush tips, but with Angularium's smooth surface, it was no issue!

I think that the NEW Stamp and Stencil Mat inspired me to try this technique, as it requires that you stamp your paper repeatedly while holding your paper in place in the same position to complete the pattern. I've had many projects get the wiggles on me in spite of my "bestest" magnets, and here this sticky Mat was a lifesaver in giving me to confidence to complete this precise pattern perfectly!

I hope that you will enjoy this project but do to explore the Simon Says Stamp Release Gallery to check out so many other goodies from all the other makers! Also, you will definitely want to visit Day 1 of the blog hop to maximize the inspiration and double your chances for prizes at each stop of the hop!

ANGULARIUM CARD AND BOOKMARK - Stamp Coloring, Stamping and Die-cutting
Card Base: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
Stamped Background Layer: 4" x 5 1/4"
Featuring:

We will use one stamped background to create both the card and the bookmark. When I have done this technique previously, I have use water-based markers with firmer foam-like nibs, overlaying the colors on top of textured stamp surfaces and spritzing with water to create lifelike watercolor effects.
Today, we will use the soft bristle brush tips of the Zigs to color the smooth surface of the stamp with no additional water to create a mottled stamped pattern. Easy, relaxing and fun!
COLOR PALETTE
Zig Clean Color Real Markers: 810 Light Red Grape, 204 Blossom Pink, 601 Sand, 603 Mocha Brown, 401 Ever Green, 056 Smoke Yellow (all from the 30 Color Set A)

PROJECT WALKTHROUGH
COLORING THE BACKGROUND

Trim a sheet of Distress Watercolor Cardstock to 6" x 6" and apply to the Stamp & Stencil Mat inside of your MISTI.
Tip: The Mat will be pretty sticky for the first use, so I actually press my palms all over it before applying the paper, just so that it doesn't get too attached and is easier to remove when I am done.

Use the 056 Smoke Yellow Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pen to color one row of angular shapes on the Angularium Cling Stamp. Stamp onto the cardstock. Touch up an areas that you wish to darken with more color onto the stamp and repeat stamping.
Repeat this process for the remaining colors in this order.

401 Ever Green Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pen

603 Mocha Brown Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pen

601 Sand Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pen

204 Blossom Pink Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pen

810 Light Red Grape Pink Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pen
Remember, you can repeat adding color to deepen and enhance the pattern! Also, after you finish stamping all the colors, you can get a 2nd generation imprint of your pattern by spritzing the remaining color on the stamp with water and stamping the entire pattern all at once onto a fresh piece of watercolor cardstock.

1st Generation Completed Stamped Image - how pretty is that???

Trim the stamped background into two pieces measuring:
- 4" x 5 1/4" (card)
- 1 1/2" x 5 1/2" (bookmark)
Trim a piece of white cardstock to 1 3/4" x 6" (bookmark base)

Stamp the "So Glad You Were Born" Sentiment from the Big Old Birthday Stamp Set in Victorian Velvet Distress Oxide. Emboss using Clear Ink and Clear Embossing Powder.
Stamp bookmark base in Victorian Velvet Distress Oxide with a sentiment of your choice.

Die-cut using the corresponding outline die and pop-up with foam tape. Adhere to stamped card background. Adhere background to card base.

Adorn the card with Bubble Blower Jewels to complete.
Round the bottom corners of the bookmark layers with 1/4" Corner Rounder and adhere. Hole-punch the layered bookmark and thread a tassel or ribbon to complete.
Applying the ink to the stamp without additional water helps preserve the sharp, lines of the Angularium pattern for a clean impression!
