Let’s be honest: I'm probably not the person making the dark and moody Halloween cards :-) If your trick-or-treating heart craves a bright hit of neon paired with just enough spooky grit to keep things deliciously wicked, you’ve arrived at the right corner of the craft room!

Another day of my Halloween card-making marathon brings out what might just be my absolute favorite lineup of the season. We’re taking the classic silhouette trick-or-treaters from the Halloween Cutouts stamp set (from the Stampers Anonymous 2026 Fall / Halloween Curations release featuring Tim Holtz) and launching them straight into a wild, toxic night sky for colorful and spooky Tim Holtz Halloween Cutouts Card.

Halloween Cutouts Card

Handmade Halloween card with TRICK OR TREAT, rainbow silhouettes, purple ghost, and neon paper layers on a craft table.

Card Highlights:

The Secret Recipe for That Neon-on-Black Contrast 🎨

To make rainbow silhouettes jump completely off dark black cardstock, contrast is everything. Here is how I built this eye-popping backdrop layer by layer:

Stenciling the Twisted Vines: Lay the Twisted Layering Stencil over a solid black cardstock panel. Use a blending brush to apply Picket Fence Distress Ink through the stencil to create a base layer. Next, spread Ranger Distress Translucent Crackle Paste smoothly through the stencil openings using a palette knife.
Watching the Magic Dry: As the paste dries clear, it forms a glossy, deeply textured webbing of eerie, twisted vines with realistic micro-cracks throughout.
The Toxic Neon Splatter Party: Once the paste is fully set, pull out your bright Neon Alcohol Inks and flick heavy splatters of electric green, scorching hot pink, and glowing orange across the entire background. The translucent crackle paste traps the color on its raised edges while the rest pops against the black background.
Stamping the Silhouette Squad: Stamp the continuous silhouette line of trick-or-treaters using the Halloween Cutouts trick or treaters image; stamp onto white watercolor cardstock, one color per trick or treater at a time. Once you've stamped the full image, mist the entire stamp with water to help the color flow and blend your favorite Distress Ink rainbow gradient right over top, then fussy-cut.
Bold Statements Only: Mount the matching "TRICK OR TREAT" cutout sentiment in crisp white and black right above the crawling vines using foam strips for instant dramatic height!
