PROJECT PALETTE

The Palette: Halloween, But Make It Pop 🎨

Instead of sticking to standard orange and black, I loaded up my ink tray with high-visibility Distress Oxide shades:

  • Fossilized Amber (For that golden retro glow)

  • Carved Pumpkin (The classic spooky staple)

  • Barn Door (A punchy, vibrant crimson red)

  • Mowed Lawn (Creepy toxic slime green)

  • Wilted Violet (Deep moody witchy purple)

  • Hickory Smoke & Picket Fence (For background atmosphere- not pictured)

Card Highlights:

THE TWO-STEP HALFTONE MAGIC

  1. Ink the base halftone layer in bright Oxide

  2. Stamp the black outline detail directly over

Result: Pop-art comic book finish in seconds! ✨

STEP BY STEP PROCESS

Layering the Background: String Lines & Gritty Texture

A colorful squad of skulls needs a background that stands out without overwhelming the art. Here is how we built that dramatic, distressed backdrop:

  1. Stenciled Lines: Lay down the String Stencil over dark cardstock and blend Picket Fence Distress Oxide Ink across it to create subtle, eerie horizontal woodgrain-like stripes.

  2. Adding Grime & Texture: Place the Grime Stencil over top and spread a generous layer of Texture Paste across random spots. Once dry, it leaves raised, chalky white splatters that look like genuine haunted house residue.

  3. Pop Up the Sentiments: Stamp the coordinating "Trick or Treat" sentiment using the same halftone gradient technique, fussy-cut it out, and mount it right in the center using foam adhesive for maximum dimension.

Thank you so much for stopping by today—I’m still not entirely sure what kind of treat a sugar-crazed neon skull prefers, but this crew looks ready to raid the candy bowl!
