Hello Lovelies! I never let a lack of talent or experience hold me back from trying new things! LOL
I was so excited to open the mail a week ago to see new artwork from Suzy Plantura's Watercolor Card line with Simon Says Stamp. This time in the form of Holiday Tags with matching dies! So while watching TV one night, I broke out my untouched set of watercolor pencils and this happened!
I look forward to seeing what new artwork Suzy has in store for us each month with the new additions to the Watercolor Card line and when they showed up in tag form for the Peace on Earth release, I thought that the small size would make it easier for me to experiment with a new medium.
I've been hoarding watercolor pencils like they were a fine wine, so I am pretty happy just to try them out on an actual project. Simon currently offers two options, Altenew Woodless Watercolor Pencils and Nuvo Watercolor Pencils:

HOLIDAY WATERCOLOR TAGS - Coloring with Watercolor Pencils and Subtle Shimmer Effects

Watercolor pencils are a little more forgiving and easier to use that traditional watercolors. There are many techniques for using them but I keep it simple and applied them dry, as if I was using a colored pencil.
Tips:
Keep your pencil pressure light. Harder pressure is likely to leave pencil marks on your paper even after you dissolve the pigment with water
Avoid blending the dry pencils, lay down different shades of a color, next to or on top of one another. Let the water do the work when you get to that step
Use a waterbrush, with the bristles just moistened, too much water may dilute the color more than you want. This should give you better control of how you want the color to appear. You can always add more water later
After I was done coloring, I used the Nuvo Glitter Gloss Pen to apply shimmer to the white part of the Santa Tag. After die cutting with the Large Tag dies, I applied Stickles to the lightbulbs on the blue tab and to sections of the Christmas trees on the green tags.
Once all the shimmer was dry, I adhered some enamel dots and threaded some color-coordinated twine through the holes that the dies created to finish.
