Hi Lovelies!
Welcome to Day 1 of Simon Says Stamp's Smitten and Sweetheart Release Blog Hop! I love tools that have multiple ways to use them and a stencil is always near the top of my favorites list.
Today's card is a Valentine's Card but can also be used to offer someone comfort or support. To create it, we will not only ink blend with the Heart Blooms Stencil and also cover it in Texture Paste for a dimensional effect.
Of course, you can make two completely separate cards with each technique but it's fun to bring them together in the same card and have the layers "echo" each other.
Let's get started by reviewing the key supplies for today's cards:
Supplies are linked throughout the post and then again in the Supplies Section at the end of this post. Check out the entire Smitten and Sweetheart release by clicking the image below:

SWEETHEART CARD
Card Base: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
Texture Paste Layer: 3 3/4" x 5"
COLOR PALETTE
Tim Holtz Distress Spray Stain - Victorian Velvet, Tattered Rose, Dried Marigold, Crushed Olive and Salvaged Patina
CARD WALKTHROUGH
Secure the Hearts Blooms Stencil over a 3 3/4" x 5" piece of Distress White Cardstock
Use a palette knife to evenly spread a layer of Opaque Distress Texture Paste through the openings in the stencil
Quickly lift up the stencil when complete to reveal the stenciled design and place the stencil in water and clean and dry it thoroughly
While the Texture Paste design is drying, secure the stencil over a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece of cardstock
Ink a large blending brush from a Distress Lost Shadow ink pad and ink blend the color through the openings in the stencil onto the white cardstock
When complete adhere this layer to a card base with Craft Glue
If the Texture Paste design is dry, place it inside a Splatter Box or a cardboard box and spray with the selected Spray Stain colors and set aside to dry
Die-cut the "Sweetheart" sentiment out of white cardstock two times
Layer and adhere the sentiment with Craft Glue
Trim and ink the sentiment strip reading, "I am always here for you" with Lost Shadow Ink
Pop up the sentiment strip with foam tape
Adhere the "Sweetheart" die-cut with Craft Glue to the dried Texture Paste Layer and then add the sentiment strip
Pop-up the Texture Paste layer with foam tape and adhere to the grey stenciled card front to finish
Add a heart from the Altenew ROCK COLLECTION Enamel Dots to finish
The grey stenciled layer is a subtle touch, but I think it offsets the intensity of the Spray-stained Texture Paste layer well!
Yes, snuck in another rainbow card but I choose mostly more muted colors that I don't use as much as I'd like to.
Layering the Sweetheart die-cut in the same color almost makes it look like the sentiment has been embossed. Inking the sentiment in grey to echo the base stenciled layer allow us to tie them together!
I hope you'll give this a try to brighten someone's day!
