Simon Says Stamp - Cardstock Strips Cards

Making cards with cardstock strips has been on my bucket list forever! Last December I snagged Simon Says Stamp's Strips 2 Wafer Die and I found the perfect opportunity this past weekend to test it out while I was getting to know Simon's line of 100lb solid color cardstock.

I planned to make 2 cards and ended up making 5! They are all simple, but I used the strips to great some fun backgrounds and then just embellished simply with layered diecuts and heat-embossed stamping.

Blame it on the cardstock! Get a load of this beautiful palette!!!

You don't NEED a Strips die to make these cards, but the die gives the paper a clean, uniform finish which enhances the overall look of the card. If that appeals to you, consider investing in that die.

Also, as you review the key supplies below, remember that you can substitute items like for similar supplies from your own stash.

A full supply list is available at the bottom of this post.

This project starts with creating your strips out of 17 different colors primarily from the Rainbow and Sweet Treat Cardstock packs. If you would like to match the exact colors I used here, consider adding the following shades of Simon Says Stamp 100lb Cardstock - Lavender, Royal Purple, Soft Navy, Cornflower, Peacock and Fog Grey.

Select all the pink, purple blue and green shades from the pack, plus the 6 additional colors I mentioned above. Cut down 1 sheet of each color to 5" x 8.5" and diecut with both of the Strips dies.

I also cut free-hand 2 ~3/8"" strips of each color to get a few thinner strips. You may consider getting the Strips 1 die if you prefer to diecut your thinner strips.

Instead of cutting them after you complete our die-cutting, I suggest cutting them first, this will be a lot easier than the route I took here.

Now, that all our strips are ready, let's take a closer peek at each of these cards and I'll share a few quick notes on what I did to assemble them.

Good Vibes Card

Each card in this series is approximately A6 size (4.50" x 6.25" folded, 9" x 6.25" unfolded).

  • Apply adhesive using the Tombow Mono Adhesive Tape Runner all over to the a 7.25" x 6.25"

  • Align the first 1/2" strip with the top edge and then repeated this process until all 17 colors are used

  • Trim the card front to 4.50" x 6.25" with a sharp scissors or guillotine trimmer. Reserve the excess striped panel for another card (Two-fer Alert!)

  • Embellish as shown with a stacked holographic diecut, sentiment strip and enamel dots

Never Forget Card

This card uses the remaining rainbow strip that we reserved from the Good Vibes card.

No long-winded explanations needed here:

  • Heat emboss the rose image from the Spring Bouquet set onto the right half of the black A6 folded card base using clear embossing powder

  • Adhere the rainbow strip to the card base as shown

  • Layer the "Never Forget" white diecut on vellum

  • Assemble and embellish your card with silver foil diecut hearts

Sending You Love Card

There is another two-fer opportunity with this design as well and that's already a win in my book.

  • As before, apply adhesive using the Tombow Mono Adhesive Tape Runner to all over the front of an A6 card base

  • Align the first deep pink 1/2" strip with the top edge and then repeat with strips of varying sizes and colors as shown or try your own pattern

  • Trim the excess, center and then diecut using the largest oval from the Waffle Flower Nesting Ovals Die Set (reserve the negative for another card)

  • Layer and adhere the oval to a white A6 folder card base

  • Heat emboss the rose image from the Spring Bouquet set onto both the oval panel and left edge of the card base using white embossing powder.

  • Heat emboss the sentiment in gold embossing powder

  • Embellish as shown with gold hearts in foil and glitter cardstock diecut using the Hearts and Stars Die Set

Lovely Card

This card uses the negative from the oval striped diecut to create a focal point for the "Lovely" sentiment.

This one also requires little explanation:

  • Adhere the "negative" to a white A6 card base as shown

  • Diecut an A6-sized piece of Cotton Candy cardstock using the Detail Ringlet Plate

  • Diecut the letters for "Lovely" twice out of 1) pink foil cardstock 2) white scrap cardstock. Layer for dimension and adhere as shown inside the oval

  • Add the sentiment strip on top of your diecut letters popped up with a thin strip of foam tape

  • Assemble and embellish your card with pink foil diecut butterflies (Flickering Butterflies Die Set)

Darling Card

For this card we will layer our strips horizontally instead of vertically to create visual interest and a bold backdrop for our bold greeting.

  • As before, apply adhesive using the Tombow Mono Adhesive Tape Runner all over the front of an A6 card base

  • Align the first blue 1/2" strip diagonally to the top left edge and then repeat with strips of varying sizes and colors as shown or try your own pattern

  • Trim the overhanging strips and discard

  • Adhere the strips card front to a white A6 folded card base

  • Embellish as shown with:

    • diecut letters (Tim Holtz Alphnumeric Stretch Upper Die Set),

    • gold stars (Hearts and Stars Die Set) in foil and glitter cardstock diecut and

    • Reverse Encouraging Sentiment Strip trimmed to size
