Concord & 9th - Butterfly Kisses Card Trio

I am rarely able to resist butterflies when it comes to crafting, so I was a super exited about several releases recently and could not resist Concord and 9th's May release!

I made three simple cards paper-piecing some of my favorite cardstock colors. I have been all about the colored cardstock this month, my scrap paper has been in danger every time I entered the craft room!

I love the simplicity of this trio, sometimes its really hard to listen to the voice in my head that says, "it doesn't have to be complicated to be interesting".

Key Supplies

A full supply list is available at the bottom of this post.

1. Hello Card

Did I ever tell you that I love Concord & 9th's Turnabout stamps? Usually, I am drawn to the ones with the more elaborate designs which are perfect for when you want that pattern to be the focal point.

However here, I just wanted the paper-pieced diecut to stand out. This subtle dot pattern does not compete with the diecut, but complements it well.

This card is an A2 Card (4.25" x 5.50"); the card base is the beautiful Dove color from the Concord and 9th Assorted Color Cardstock Set. The patterned turnabout front panel was trimmed down from 4.25" x 5.50" to 3.75" x 5".

Since these cards are so straightforward, I will focus on providing details on the paper-piecing elements of each and a couple of other pointers.

Key Techniques

1. Select and trim cardstock colors to 1 1/8" wide. I used Simon Says Stamp Blue Violet, Green Apple and Orange Peel, with and emerald green from my stash).

2. Apply adhesive to a 2 1/2" wide strip of white printer paper, adhere cardstock strips to the paper (2nd photo).

3. Trip excess colored cardstock.

4. Align the "hello" die form the Concord and 9th Everyday Sayings Die Set, to cut each letter into the color(s) of cardstock as you prefer; secure with low-tack tape and die-cut.

Other Key Notes:

  • 1st Base layer of the hello diecut - Simon Says Stamp Mint Cardstock I cut a second base layer out of black cardstock to creat a shadow.

  • "I think that you are incredible" - Concord and 9th Bold Butterfly Stamp Set

  • Ink Colors for Sketched Dots Turnabout Stamp - Concord and 9th Sea Glass and Dove, Simon Says Stamp Intense Black

2. Life is Beautiful Card

This fun diecut sentiment from the Butterfly Pairings Die Set, takes up the entire front of an A2 card and is a perfect focal point for that reason! I did some watermark stamping to create the background on Kraft cardstock and printed the "with you' sentiment that I wanted to pair with the diecut.

Here are a few pics showing the assembly of the multicolored diecuts, using the same technique as illustrated in the first card. The Xyron Sticker Maker was handy as I cut two layers and stacked them to give the sticker some more dimension.

Other Key Notes:

  • Cardstock Colors - Simon Says Stamp Doll Pink, Blue Violet, Orange Peel (greens from my stash),

  • Butterflies on A2 Card Base - selected from the Concord and 9th Bold Butterfly Stamp Set; stamped in Clear Simon Says Stamp Ink

  • Use the diecut to gauge where to stamp butterflies.

  • Adhere coordinating Pink Fresh Studio Jewels in a row along the top right corner of the card base.

  • The "with you" sentiment is popped up with foam tape.

3. Thanks Card

This fabulous die-cut is the other half of the Butterfly Pairings Die Set creates an eye-catching center-piece for this card!

Here are a few pics showing the assembly of the multicolored die-cut, using the same technique as illustrated in the 1st and 2nd card.

The lilac panel on the card front is 3" x 5.50" and is only used as a frame to inlay the multicolored butterfly diecut.

I also broke out my Tim Holtz Shaping Kit to mold the butterfly. I have a feeling that I will be doing a lot more of this!

Other Key Notes:

  • "Thanks" butterfly diecut - Picked Raspberry Distress Ink

  • "I'm blessed to know you" sentiment - Concord and 9th Bold Butterfly Stamp Set

Now you have even more ways to use your cardstock, especially if you have scraps!
