Altenew Craft-A-Flower: Rose Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hi Lovelies!

I'm warning you, I tried something a little different for the Craft-A-Flower Rose Blog Hop! Are you hopping along from Norine Borys lovely creations? Well after me, please be sure to visit Therese Calvird for more inspiration.

The star of this month's Craft-A-Flower show is a set of Rose layering diecuts, that makes one bloom and two leaf elements.

Altenew is offering a Craft-A-Flower: Rose Layering Die Set & Gradient Cardstock Bundle at 5% off, featuring pink and green cardstock. I went in a completely different direction with both of my projects this time, but this cardstock is perfect for a quick start on this set!

Each Craft-A-Flower Die Set comes with a Layering Guide which is a must-have to help you in selecting the cardstock layers in a range from light to dark shades and aligning each cardstock layer with the appropriate die.

Let's get to the projects then, shall we?

Project 1: Watercolor Hugs Card

Altenew has a wide selection of watercolors and I chose their Watercolor 36 Pan Set to create my own version of gradient cardstock for this card.

This is a project for a lazy afternoon, if you are in a rush, whip out that gradient cardstock and get to cutting! LOL

I essentially swatched many of the 36 pan watercolors onto A2-sized watercolor cardstock to use for die-cutting in this project or backgrounds in future projects.

There is no technique here, just get a large flat brush, some water and get some color onto paper that you have spritzed with water.

Once dry, I selected 4 shades of pink and 3 shades of green. Tip: I mixed the brightest green color from a blue and yellow in the set.

Then it business as usual to diecut your flower and leaf layers.

I paired my assembled Rose die-cuts with the background from the Shine Like a Diamond Stamp Set. I finished off with a Hugs diecut and heart from my stash. The Hello and Hugs Die Set would also work well here if you like that sentiment.

Project 2: Pencil Case with Felt Rose Flower

If you are like me, you may have some felt stashed away in your craft space that you have not used for a while. Time to dig that out and make some embellishments!

Tip: Stiff, thin felt works best, the softer kind is hard to diecut.

Other Supplies:

- canvas pencil case

- a black Sharpie for accents and touch-ups

- glue made for adhering fabrics (unless your felt is adhesive-backed or you like to sew)

- embroidery thread in coordinating colors

Diecut and assemble your layers using the adhesive.

Set aside your assembled flower and leaves to dry and stamp your sentiment in Jet Black Mixed Media Ink directly onto the canvas pencil case. If needed fill in any spots with the Sharpie.

Set aside your stamped pencil case to dry and make a tassel with the embroidery thread by looping it around a pen as shown, tying it off with a contrasting color and cutting the ends.

Adhere your flower and leaves to the pencil case and add random dots with the Sharpie.

Finish by tying your tassel to the zipper.

I am using this little bag for craft supplies but it could make a cute cosmetics bag, cash envelope pouch or whatever you see fit to stash in it.
