Caution, MANY images ahead! Sorry for being gone for so long. Summer is over :-( and I have been very busy in my craftroom (3 mini-albums and some Christmas cards for a class so far). I am so excited to share what I have been up to. Today's post will be about the 2nd mini-album that I made this summer. I have been falling in love with mini-albums for a long time now and I still have a lot to learn, below is my first commissioned effort.
A close friend of mine is an Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) sorority alumni and she wanted a very special gift for a soror's birthday. I decided to create a album that celebrates their friendship and sisterhood as part of this special organization. I practiced on another album project before I started this one, and it took me nearly two months to finish. I heard that she cried when she got it this morning, so to me, it was all worth it!
The AKA colors are pink and green. I dug deep into my stash to find the BoBunny Little Miss collection from a couple years ago, the salmon pink, soft greens and browns were perfect for this project. I chose die-cuts based on the images in the paper - tea cups, umbrellas, birds and birdcages, dress forms, doiles, as well as some banners and flourishes. I also focused on symbols of the AKA sorority live ivy, tea roses, pearls and the mirror.
I journaled about these symbols through out the album (see tidbit images), included a smidge of AKA history and asked my friend to write her friend's story and give me a poem to include. I used Jamie Dougherty Bloom Girl Stamps and tried my Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils for the first time to color them in. I love these stamps so much, I want to learn to color a lot better. :-)
