Lately, I’ve been interested in mixed media and as soon as I find time, I have convinced myself that I will complete a mixed media journal. In the interim, I am trying out the products in my cards:
I really liked Vicki Boutin’s Mixed Media Line by American Crafts that was released earlier this year; everything looked really accessible and the packaging was eye catching. It was a lovely coincidence for these mixed media products and my September Concord & 9th order to show up in my mailbox at the same time. It wasn't much of a stretch for me to decide to pair them together for some card-making. SUPPLIES:

Watercolor/Mixed Media Paper In this card I used the watercolor crayons on my wreath to color the leaves and centers of the Magnolia flowers. Details on watercoloring and assembling the wreath below:
MAGNOLIAS: create an off-white background by applying the "cream" crayon (pictured below) to white watercolor or mixed media paper and dissolving the crayon marks with a wet water brush. When dry, die-cut the flowers in both sizes. Apply a smudge of medium brown crayon to your craft mat, dissolve with a water brush. Press the flower center stamp into the brown color smudge and apply to the center of the smaller flower.
LEAVES: Randomly scribble two shades of the green crayons on watercolor or mixed media paper, overlapping the scribbled lines. Brush with a wet water brush to dissolve the crayon and create a variegated green background. Once the background dries, die-cut the wreath leaves
WREATH: Once the smaller flowers are dry, finish the center off with by adhering some gold glass glitter with glue. Loosely layout the leaves in a circular shape and layer with the flowers. Once you are satisfied with the shape, reassemble the wreath on your completed card front securing with an adhesive of your choice.
The crayons are such fun and I can’t wait to use them in my journal, but until then I will just have fun with these cards.
